Chennai Super Kings endured a nightmarish outing at Chepauk, posting their lowest-ever IPL total at home — 103/9 against Kolkata Knight Riders in the 25th match of the season. This total is not only CSK’s lowest in Chennai but also their second-lowest overall in IPL history, narrowly surpassing the 97 all-out they suffered against Mumbai Indians at Wankhede in 2022.
The score also ranks as the second-lowest team total ever recorded at Chepauk, behind only RCB’s infamous 70 all-out against CSK in 2019.
Opting to bat first, CSK lost wickets at regular intervals and never found any momentum. Six of their wickets fell to spin — the most ever for the franchise in a single IPL innings. Shivam Dube stood tall amidst the wreckage, scoring an unbeaten 31, while Vijay Shankar chipped in with 29. The rest of the batting order faltered under tight spells from Sunil Narine and Varun Chakaravarthy.
The collapse was especially painful considering it came during MS Dhoni’s homecoming as captain. From a relatively stable 59/2, CSK plummeted to 75/8. A late push from Dube and Anshul Kamboj helped them limp past 100, but the total looks severely below par on a spin-friendly Chennai track.
With KKR not even needing Andre Russell to bowl and all five frontline bowlers picking up wickets, the visitors will be backing themselves for a comfortable chase and a potential statement win.
