The CEO of Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Kasi Viswanathan, has confirmed that MS Dhoni will seek medical advice regarding his knee injury. Viswanathan mentioned that the decision to undergo surgery would be entirely Dhoni’s prerogative. Dhoni had previously expressed his intention to return for another season of the IPL in 2024 as a gift to the fans, provided his body allows it.
Throughout the IPL 2023 season, the legendary skipper played while nursing a left knee injury. Although he showcased his flawless wicket-keeping skills, the issue became apparent when he ran between the wickets, which subsequently led to him batting lower down the order.
Viswanathan stated, “Yes, it is true that Dhoni will be taking medical advice for his left knee injury and will make a decision accordingly. Whether surgery is recommended or not can only be determined once the reports are out; the final decision will be up to him.”
Chennai Super Kings made history by defeating the Gujarat Titans, led by Hardik Pandya, in the IPL 2023 final. By securing a five-wicket victory over Gujarat, Chennai claimed their fifth IPL title. Leading from the front, the 41-year-old MS Dhoni played a significant role in Chennai’s title triumph.
Reflecting on the franchise’s celebration of their fifth IPL victory, Viswanathan revealed that there were no extravagant celebrations as the team has never been inclined towards such festivities. “He is very happy, but there were no celebrations. The players dispersed to their respective destinations from Ahmedabad. Also, if you observe CSK, we have never been big on celebrations,” Viswanathan stated.
Having been associated with CSK since the inaugural season, Viswanathan highlighted the team’s adherence to their process and their focus on simplicity. He emphasized that the key to their success lies in keeping things uncomplicated and ensuring that every player understands their role. “In our franchise, the skipper keeps everything uncomplicated,” he concluded.
