Gujarat Titans’ batsman, B Sai Sudharsan, has attributed his remarkable innings of 96 runs off just 47 balls in the IPL final against the Chennai Super Kings to a composed mindset and a focus on the mental aspect of the game. Sudharsan’s aggressive knock, comprising eight fours and six sixes, propelled GT to a total of 214 for four and raised hopes of securing back-to-back titles. However, Ravindra Jadeja’s heroics, smashing a six and a four in the final two balls, helped CSK chase down the revised target of 171 runs from 15 overs in the rain-affected summit clash on Monday.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, the 21-year-old Sudharsan acknowledged feeling immense pressure in the previous game but realized the importance of remaining calm and believed in his ability to perform better. He emphasized, “I came to the realization that being more calm is much better, and I have the ability to do much better. I felt a bit more calm in this game.” Sudharsan also addressed his retirement in the Qualifier 2 against the Mumbai Indians when he was on 43 runs, stating that while it was personally worrying, he understood it was a team decision.
Expressing his support for the team’s cause, Sudharsan acknowledged the explosiveness of GT’s middle-order batsmen and their ability to contribute significantly to the team’s success. He highlighted that the decision to retire him out was made in the best interest of the team, and he fully supported it.
When asked about his approach in the final, the left-handed batter from Chennai explained, “When Shubman (Gill) got out, it was all about taking the game a little deeper and keeping a check on the scoreboard as well. I was trying to take my chances and take the game deep as well.” Sudharsan emphasized the importance of the mental aspect of the game, emphasizing his preparation, awareness, and decision-making in different situations. He also mentioned the work he had put into improving his skills.
With an impressive total of 362 runs in eight matches, including three fifties, at an average of 51.71 and a strike rate of 141.40, Sudharsan emerged as Gujarat Titans’ second-highest run-scorer in the tournament. His exceptional performances throughout the season showcased his talent and his ability to make a significant impact on the team’s success.
