Defending champions Chennai Super Kings have already started preparations for the new season of IPL. The fans are really excited as two new teams have been added from this year. As South African opening batter Faf du Plessis is no more a CSK player, the defending champions will be looking for his replacement. Chennai has bought in some of the players in this year’s IPL mega auction, which they could use as an opener. But it will be interesting to see that who CSK choose their opening batter along with their regular opener Ruturaj Gaikwad, who was being retained by the franchise.
Three players who can open the innings for CSK along with Ruturaj Gaikwad:
1. Robin Uthappa: Robin Uthappa was bought by CSK in the year 2021. He also won a trophy with the franchise last season. However, the opening batter didn’t get many opportunities to open as Ruturaj used to open the innings with Faf du Plessis who is now an RCB player and a captain as well. The fans can see Robin as an opener in the IPL 2022 but it is somewhat unlikely as he played the role of middle-order batter in some of the matches last year.
2. Devon Conway: Devon Conway is the top-order batter who was bought in by the franchise in this year’s mega auction. He may open the innings with Ruturaj Gaikwad as he was also seen practicing with the Indian opener.
3. Ambati Rayudu: Ambati Rayudu can also be an option for CSK for the opening role. Rayudu has also opened the innings for Chennai in the year 2018, the year in which CSK lifted the trophy for the third time. He used to open the innings with Shane Watson and was one of the best batters in the year 2018.
