
India will begin their T20 World Cup campaign against rivals, Pakistan on 24th October in Dubai, according to the fixture list released by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for the tournament. India’s next matches will be against New Zealand and Afghanistan on October 31st and November 3rd respectively. The Virat Kohli led side’s last league games will be against the top-ranked team from Group B, which will be on 5th November and the second-ranked team from Group A, which will be on 8th November.
The preliminary round of the tournament will have two groups: Group A and Group B. Group A consists of Ireland, Netherlands, Namibia and cricketing giants Sri Lanka. Group B consists of Oman, Papua New Guinea, Scotland and Bangladesh.
The tournament will start with Oman facing Papua New Guinea on 17th October which will start at 2 p.m. local time, this will be followed by Scotland vs Bangladesh which will be at 6 p.m. local time. The Group A matches will begin the next day onwards in Abu Dhabi. Round 1 will continue till 22nd October. The top two teams, from each team, will progress to the Super 12 stage which begins on the 23rd of October.
Group 1 of the Super 12 stage will consist of Australia, South Africa, West Indies, England, the top-ranked side of Group A from Round 1, second-ranked side of Group B from Round 1. Group 2 consists of India, Pakistan, New Zealand, Afghanistan, the second-ranked team from Group A and the first ranked team from Group B.
This will be the first T20 World Cup played since 2016, where West Indies dramatically won against England at the Eden Gardens.
