Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal have opened India’s second innings after deciding against enforcing the follow-on in the first Test against Bangladesh in Chennai. Earlier, a stellar bowling performance from Jasprit Bumrah led India to dismiss Bangladesh for 149 runs on Day 2. Bumrah’s fiery spell saw him claim four wickets, while Mohammed Siraj, Ravindra Jadeja, and Akash Deep each took two wickets. Bangladesh’s top scorer was Shakib Al Hasan, who managed 32 runs, but his effort wasn’t enough to prevent a significant deficit.

India took a commanding first-innings lead of 227 runs after bowling Bangladesh out in just over 1.5 sessions. The only notable resistance from Bangladesh came from the Shakib-Litton Das partnership, but once that broke, Bangladesh’s innings crumbled quickly. Litton Das, trying to play a sweep shot, was caught out, and Shakib soon followed him after a mistimed reverse-sweep.

India had earlier posted a total of 376, thanks to a brilliant century from Ravichandran Ashwin (113) and a solid 86 from Ravindra Jadeja. The pair’s crucial partnership set the stage for India’s dominance in the game.

Now, India will look to build on their lead and bat Bangladesh out of the contest.
