India lost Virat Kohli as a Test captain: Eoin Morgan on team India’s WTC Final loss

Australia emerged victorious in the World Test Championship (WTC) final, defeating India by 209 runs on June 11, marking the end of the second WTC cycle and the beginning of the third cycle. The WTC was initiated by the International Cricket Council (ICC) in 2019 to preserve and promote the longest and oldest format of the game, amidst concerns of its declining popularity worldwide.

However, former England captain and World Cup winner, Eoin Morgan, believes that Test cricket is once again facing a challenging phase. He expressed his concern over the loss of Virat Kohli as a Test captain, emphasizing that Kohli’s passion and love for the format were invaluable.

Morgan was quoted by the Mirror, saying, “Test cricket for me is still unbelievable. But it is a really challenging time for it. It has lost Virat Kohli as a Test captain and he always spoke vividly about how much he loved it and was passionate about it.”

Virat Kohli, the former captain of the Indian cricket team, has been a vocal advocate for the significance of Test cricket. He holds the distinction of being the fourth most successful captain in the history of the game, having achieved 40 victories in 58 matches, with an impressive win percentage of 58.82. However, Kohli stepped down from the captaincy in January 2023 after India’s 1-2 series loss to South Africa.
