India outplayed Sri Lanka in all departments to win the 1st ODI of Sri Lanka. Indian inexperienced squad dominated and controlled the match and pushed the host on the back foot.
Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav made their ODI debuts for India, while Sri Lanka’s Bhanuka Rajapaksa played his only 50-over match.
Sri Lanka scored 262/9 after electing to bat in the first One-day International, thanks to a late flourish. Chamika Karunaratne top-scored with 43 off 35 balls while batting at number eight. Dasun Shanaka (39) and Charith Asalanka (38) played well at the bottom of the order. For India, Deepak Chahar, Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav bagged 2 wickets while the Pandya brothers got 1 wicket each.
In response to Sri Lanka’s 262 runs, Indian openers did an aggressive start to their innings. Prithvi Shaw smashed 43 runs off 24 balls including 9 fours and dominated Sri Lankan bowlers. Debutant Ishan Kishan started his innings in style hitting the first ball six and a boundary on the next ball. Captain Shikhar Dhawan played matured innings of 86* runs off 95 balls and led India to victory in the 1st ODI match. For Sri Lanka, Dhananjaya de Silva claimed 2 wickets while Sandakan got 1.
Prithvi Shaw was awarded the Man of the Match for his aggressive knock. India leads the 3 match ODI series by 1-0, the 2nd ODI will be played on Tuesday.
