India have slipped into an unusual and unwanted statistical streak, having now lost the toss in 19 consecutive One-Day Internationals. The run began with the 2023 World Cup final in Ahmedabad and has continued through every ODI since.

This is now the longest toss-losing streak in the history of men’s ODI cricket.

The previous worst record belonged to the Netherlands, who lost the toss 11 ODIs in a row between March 2011 and August 2013. India have now surpassed that by a significant margin, setting a new benchmark for consecutive toss defeats.

With captains across formats often emphasising the importance of conditions — especially in ODIs where dew, pitch behaviour and weather can heavily influence decisions — India’s continued run of losing tosses has become a talking point among fans and broadcasters.

The streak remains active as India head deeper into their current ODI assignments.
