A surprising call by the Indian management and skipper Rohit has been witnessed as Rishabh Pant steps out to open with captain Rohit Sharma and it is quite amusing to choose Rishabh Pant who is exclusively known for big shots in the death overs. Rishabh used to open in the U-19 World Cup for team India and is opening for the first time in an ODI for senior team India.
Rohit suggested that India will be looking for some unexpected changes by experimenting with roles to the individuals for the upcoming World Cup and this can be one of the reasons why Pant has been asked to open with Rohit Sharma.
KL Rahul has contributed a lot in the middle-overs and will continue to do so and which is why the Indian team thinks to let him bat at his comfortable position. KL opened when Rohit missed the South Africa tour and with Dhawan’s absence it looked quite obvious to watch him open with Rohit Sharma but Rishabh Pant came out as a surprise.
Regular Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan contracted with COVID-19 and has recovered now as he was seen practising with team India at the practice campaign yesterday on Tuesday. If Dhawan comes back in the playing XI it will be exciting to watch who will be the replacement as Pant is the primary choice for wicket-keeping and KL Rahul’s prime performance has appointed him to be the team’s vice-captain. The only choice left will be in replacement of Deepak Hooda is playing his second game for India today. If Virat’s poor performance continues, BCCI can take the major foot in replacing one of the best players for the third ODI and tours after that which will be a big blow to witness in team India.
