The One Day International (ODI) series opener between India and Sri Lanka is scheduled for Tuesday, and Indian captain Rohit Sharma is ready to lead the home team.  The Indian think tan  made a difficult decision when selecting Rohit’s opening partner for the three-match series and end the debate as both the openers –  Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill have kept their spots in the ODI squad following the Sri Lanka T20Is.

Indian captain Rohit announced his opening partner for the three-match series during the customary press conference held prior to the first One-Day International between India and Sri Lanka on Monday. Premier batter Gill will be the Indian captain’s opening partner during the three-match series, he has revealed. Although Gill was confirmed as India’s opening choice by Rohit, the Indian captain also noted Kishan’s recent batting successes. In the previous ODI series between Bangladesh and India, opener Kishan scored an incredible double-century.

“Both openers (Gill and Kishan) have done really well. But looking at how both have gone through, I think it is fair that we give Gill a chance to have a fair run because in the last games Gill got a lot of runs as well. I am not going to take anything from Ishan. He has been wonderful for us. He got a double hundred and I know what it takes to get a double hundred, it is a great achievement. But just to be honest and be fair to the guys, who have done really well before that we need to give those guys enough chances as well,” Rohit told reporters on the eve of the 1st ODI against Sri Lanka.
