IND vs SA Day 3: India eyeing 250 runs lead with Kohli & Pant putting up a 72* runs partnership

At the end of the first session, India is batting at 130/4, with Kohli playing at 28* and Pant smashing his half-century.

Day 3 at Capetown began with a score of 57/2. India lost two crucial wickets of Pujara and Rahane. Jansen and Rabada were bowling fiercely to push India at backfoot at the first half of the session. Rishabh Pant next came in to accompany Captain Kohli.

At first, the South African Speedster showed incredible speed and skills and was troubling the Indian Captain, but Kohli kept his calm and showed his experience, acting as a wall for the team throughout the session scoring 28 runs in 127 balls. On the other end, Rishabh Pant played his natural game, scoring a quick 51 runs off just 60 balls, smashing four boundaries and one six, taking India’s score to 130/4 at Lunch.

At the pre-match interview, Virat Kohli stated: “MS Dhoni said to me very early that there should be a gap of at least 7-8 months between two mistakes; only then will your career grow. What happens when you reflect on your mistakes, which I know Rishabh does. He will keep improving” (source: ESPNcricinfo). Pant has proven the statement of Kohli and is getting better and better with every match. Despite playing risky shots, he knows which balls can get his wicket, and he plays accordingly, choosing his balls and scoring areas.

India will be looking to get their lead above 250 to provide South Africa with a fighting total. This target seems achievable with Ashwin and Shardul yet to bat and Kohli and Pant looking good. On the other hand, South Africa will try to break this partnership and end this innings before the end of the day.
