India suffered an early blow in their chase as opener Yashasvi Jaiswal fell for a four-ball duck, triggering pin-drop silence across the Eden Gardens on Sunday. Marco Jansen, after starting with three looseners, produced a perfect delivery in the channel to dismiss the left-hander and give South Africa the opening they desperately needed.
Jansen hit a good length outside off, the ball nipped back just enough, and Jaiswal — rooted to the crease — was forced into a tentative defensive prod. The ball took a faint outside edge through to keeper Kyle Verreynne, who completed a clean catch. The bowler and the Proteas fielders went up instantly, fully aware they had their first breakthrough.
Jaiswal walked back without scoring, leaving India shaken at the start of a crucial second-innings chase. The Eden Gardens, loud all morning, suddenly fell silent as the crowd absorbed the unexpected early setback.
