New Zealand’s Matt Henry has been exceptional against India in ODIs, boasting 21 wickets in 11 matches at an economy of 4.48. In the league-stage clash between the two teams, Henry was brilliant with a five-wicket haul, though New Zealand fell short by 44 runs. With India and New Zealand set to clash in the Champions Trophy 2025 final, Henry’s threat looms large over the Men in Blue.
Matt Henry Doubtful for Final Against India
During the semi-final clash against South Africa, Henry sustained a shoulder injury while attempting a catch. New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner remained uncertain about Henry’s availability for the final, stating:
“It’s a bit sore; we have to wait for a couple of days and see.”
Henry has a remarkable record against India, with an average of 21 and a strike rate of 28, making him one of the most effective Kiwi pacers against the Indian team.
Santner Confident of Taking on India Again
Despite their league-stage defeat, Santner exuded confidence about taking on India in the Champions Trophy final, emphasizing that New Zealand has learned from their previous encounter.
“It’s a cool feeling to make the final. We were challenged by a good side. We’ve had a go against India, and we look forward to doing it again.”
Santner also highlighted that tactical execution and the toss could play a key role in determining the outcome of the final.
“Being there in Dubai and putting India under pressure gave us confidence. You take in what things work and what doesn’t. I think the bowlers bowled well to chip wickets at the top. I think winning the toss will be nice as well.”
With Henry’s participation still uncertain, New Zealand will closely monitor his recovery, as his presence could be a game-changer in the high-stakes final on March 9.
