Evidently the Day one of the second Test favoured the hosts who elected to bat first after winning the toss. Rohit Sharma after having some dry Tests, answered the critiques with a hundred today. England’s pacer Olly Stone got the early breakthrough after dismissing Shubman Gill. India’s newly built wall, Cheteshwar Pujara was caught sharply by Ben Stokes getting dismissed on 21 from 58.
Though Gill and captain Virat Kohli departed for duck. Ajinkya Rahane and Rohit engrossed in the flow and knitted a 162-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Rohit was dismissed on 161 from 231 deliveries post-tea but the pair got dismissed in consecutive overs. Rohit’s century helped the hosts to pile up some runs. Praising the two batters, ICC tweeted: “England clawed their way back on day one with crucial wickets of Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane after the two batsmen led India’s charge with a solid partnership.”
