Ind vs Eng: ODIs in Pune to be held behind closed doors

Amid the spike in Covid-19 cases in Maharashtra, the Maharashtra government gave a nod to the three-match One Day International series between India and England to be played in Pune. There were speculations about shifting the series to some other ground. But the series will be played without spectators.

“Keeping the seriousness of the current spike in COVID cases in Maharashtra, after inputs from the Hon’ble Chief Minister, it was decided that permission will be granted for these matches without spectators,” the Maharashtra Cricket Association said.

The cricket body advised the players to take necessary precautions regarding the coronavirus spread.

“The Chief Minister requested the President of Maharashtra Cricket Association to take all necessary precautions regarding players and other officials.

The association also gave the vote of thanks to the BCCI, ICC and MCA president Sharad Pawar for the help and guidance.

“With this, the uncertainty about holding these one-day internationals, has ended and the Association can start preparatory works like obtaining permissions, for smooth conduct of the matches,” it said.

“At this juncture, Vikas Kakatkar also wishes to put on record the invaluable help and guidance received from Hon’ble Sharadrao Pawar,” the release stated.
