On day 3 of first Test in Chennai, England captain Joe Root took remarkable one-handed stunner to detain India batsman Anjinkya Rahane.
India were in a tough situation in the second innings of the day as they lost skipper Virat Kohli and his deputy Rahane with hardly a pause in the between. Rahane ventured out a delivery from off-spinner Dom Bess and drove uppishly. Root, positioned at cover, jumped to one side and took a one-handed catch that had the England players ecstatic.
Root couldn’t do anything incorrectly in the Test as in the wake of hitting a heavenly 218 in his 100th Test. He made the right bowling changes and field conditions and finished off everything with a spectacular catch. Rahane’s dismissal implied India were decreased to 73 for 4.
On the third morning of the Test, India lost four of their top five batsmen inside two sessions after taking the remaining two England wickets.
Rohit Sharma edged behind to the ‘keeper while Shubham Gill was also victim to a superb piece of effort in the field by an English player, this time James Anderson.
Gill drove a full ball by Archer towards mid-on, and Anderson jumped to his left and took a catch inches off the ground to put India two down.
Kohli was detained by Bess for 11 and when Rahane fell a couple of seconds after the fact, India were in a wide difficult situation.
The four-match Test series has the subsequent Test planned at Chennai followed by the last two in Ahmedabad.
