Ind vs Eng: Joe Root hits double ton in his 100th Test match

An extraordinary innings from an extraordinary guy in his 100th Test match. Joe Root became the first player to score a double-hundred in his 100th Test. As he stood at the crease like a root for England’s batting line up and helped to stem England’s first innings after the tourists lost two wickets early on day one. 

The 30-year-old scored a double hundred in his 98th match, a ton in 99th game and resumed the form in Chennai and stood up to the expectations and clubbed another double ton. This is his fifty double ton. England’s skipper smashed a century on Day one at Ma Chidambaram Stadium.

Opener Dom Sibley and all-rounder Ben Stokes scored half-centuries and piled on runs while keeping the hosts under pressure. 

Playing his 100th Test in Chennai, incidentally the Yorkshire lad made his Test debut in 2012 in India. 

At tea, Root is unbeaten on 209 with Ollie Pope at the crease.
