IND vs ENG: Jasprit Bumrah set to be rested for Ranchi Test

India’s ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah is set to extend his break from the ongoing England series, with reports suggesting he will likely skip the next Test in Ranchi. The decision regarding his availability for the fifth and final Test in Dharamsala remains pending and could hinge on the outcome of the fourth Test, commencing on February 23.

Following the conclusion of the third Test, the Indian team is scheduled to depart from Rajkot on Tuesday (February 20), with Bumrah expected to opt out of the travel plan. Instead, he is anticipated to undertake a four-hour drive to Ahmedabad from Rajkot on Monday. No other player is reported to be skipping the upcoming Test.

This strategic move to rest Bumrah aligns with the Indian team’s workload management strategy. Bumrah, who currently leads the wicket-taking charts in the series with 17 dismissals at an impressive average of 13.64, has already bowled 80.5 overs across the three matches.

Similar to Mohammed Siraj’s rest during the second Test in Visakhapatnam, there is no immediate indication of the team management seeking a replacement for Bumrah. However, Mukesh Kumar, who was released from the third Test to participate in a Ranji game for Bengal, is expected to rejoin the squad in Ranchi.
