As England defeated India in 1st Test has kept alive their chances of making it to the finals of ICC World Test Championship. Yet Indian captain Virat Kohli isn’t worried about the points table as he wants to focus on the things which they (Indian team) can control such as playing good cricket in upcoming matches.
A year ago ICC has decided to change the point rating system of WTC due to COVID-19. The WTC table has now been now revised to rank teams based on the percentage of points achieved from the series played.
However, Kohli was not happy with the change in the rating system. The Indian captain said the group will proceed with a comparable outlook as nothing changes for the hosts despite England bringing down India in the WTC points table.
During the virtual press conference from ANI replying to a query Kohli said, “We will look at the upcoming games in the same way as we have looked up till now. Nothing changes for us when you are in lockdown and if suddenly the rules can change nothing is in your control at all. The only thing which is in your control is what on the field.”
He also added, “For some things, there is no logic for something you can have a debate for hours as much as you want. The only thing you can control as a side is playing good cricket and that’s our only focus regardless of who is on the top of the table.”
While replying to a question from ANI Kohli said, “Before this Test match you were not thinking of England’s chances and suddenly you are talking about, they are on the top of the table. These things keep changing all the time. Our focus is to play good cricket.
New Zealand has just qualified for the last winning 70.0 percent of the matches (with no other series plan) while India and Australia stay in dispute for the other spot alongside England.
