
On Day 1 of the first Test against Bangladesh in Chattogram on Wednesday, Team India’s Cheteshwar Pujara came up just 10 runs short of his century. Pujara scored 90 off 203 balls, smashed 11 fours, and passed an Indian batting legend for a significant Test cricket accomplishment.
Pujara surpassed former India captain Dilip Vengsarkar on the way to achieve a significant Test victory for the nation. In the longest format of the game, Pujara outperformed the former Indian captain to rank eighth among all scorers for his team.
In 116 Test matches for India, Vengsarkar secured 6,868 runs. Pujara, who overtook the prestigious former batsman, is now in eighth place and is closest to another former captain, Sourav Ganguly, who finished his Test career with 7,212 runs.
