Bangladesh have named left-arm spinner Nasum Ahmed to their 15-man squad for the second Test against India, which will take place in Dhaka from December 22 to 26. Nasum has played 32 limited overs matches for Bangladesh but has yet to appear in a Test match.

The inclusion of Nasum is not surprising given that Bangladesh head coach Russell Domingo admitted during the post-first-Test press conference that they are unsure whether Shakib al Hasan will be able to bowl in the second Test. In the first innings of the Chattogram Test, Shakib bowled only 12 overs and chose not to bowl in the second innings.

“I am not a hundred percent sure whether he will be available to bowl. He’s definitely able to play as a batter which is an issue for us since we need an all-rounder. So at the moment he will need to be assessed in a day or two but at the moment fit to play as a batter,” Domingo said.

Ebadot Hossain who didn’t bowl in Chattogram’s second innings, has also been excluded. The absence of Shoriful Islam, who missed the first Test after hurting his hamstring in a pre-game practise, has further depleted the pace department.

Anamul Haque has also been removed from the team, and Tamim Iqbal isn’t playing because he couldn’t get well from his injury.

After suffering a severe loss in the first Test, Bangladesh will be hoping that the changes result in a turn around in their fortunes. India, on the other hand, will seek to maintain its momentum and improve its standing in the World Test Championship standings. The second Test will take place in Dhaka from December 22 through 26.

Bangladesh squad for second Test: Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Mominul Haque, Yasir Ali, Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib Al Hasan (c), Litton Das, Nurul Hasan, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Taijul Islam, Taskin Ahmed, Khaled Ahmed, Zakir Hasan, Rejaur Rahman Raja.
