IND vs AUS: Umesh Yadav set to play T20Is after 43 months

The upcoming T20 International series between India and Australia will not include Mohammed Shami. The veteran pacer has not arrived in Mohali, the venue of the first of the three T20I matches against the Australians (20th September), according to reports. BCCI officials confirmed that Shami, who was thought to make a prominent comeback, has been tested positive for COVID-19, and shall miss the critical chance before the ICC T20 World Cup.

Umesh Yadav will be replacing Mohammed Shami, as reported by Business Upturn earlier.

His inclusion as a replacement for Mohammed Shami, was confirmed when the paparazzi reported Umesh Yadav landing Chandigarh and heading straight to the hotel in which team India is staying. In an unexpected move, Umesh was added to the Indian T20I team when Mohammed Shami was forced to withdraw from the three-match T20I series against Australia owing to Covid-19. Shami was scheduled to participate in his first T20I match since the World Cup in Dubai in 2021.

Umesh could start the series opener on Tuesday at Mohali practically without a doubt because of the speed with which he was rushed to Chandigarh. It will be Umesh’s first opportunity to play with the white ball in the India blue in 43 months if he does make the starting XI for the opening T20I.
