IND vs AUS: How Team India Can Qualify For World Test Championship Final after Indore Test defeat

The World Test Championship final scenario has changed following India’s defeat in the third Test of the IND vs AUS Test series. The only three teams that can make it to the WTC final are India, Australia, and Sri Lanka.

India was expected to sweep Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after winning the first two games. The visitors, however, made a strong comeback in the third Test, outplaying the hosts in the Indore Test by chasing a mere 76-run target in the final innings.

Australian side have bounced back well in the third Test match against India. Indian cricket team had no answers to the questions Australian bowlers and batters asked in the game in Indore. After this loss, the series is now at 2-1 and the final game will be an important one.

With a PCT of 69+, Australia now holds the top spot in the WTC points table. India’s PCT has dropped to 60, but it still ranks second in the WTC points table. Sri Lanka is ranked third, with a PCT of 53.0.

With a PCT of 69.0 after defeating India in the third Test, Australia has risen to the top of the WTC rankings. Australia has confirmed its place in the World Tour Championship final. Even if Australia loses the fourth Test and the series 3-1, they will have a PCT of 65.0 and will retain their top spot in the points table.

If India wins the final Test to defeat Australia 3-1 in the Border-Gavaskar series, they will have a PCT of 63.0 and will finish second in the points table. In this case, Australia’s PCT will fall to 65.0, but they will still qualify for the WTC final against India by finishing first in the WTC points table.

In this scenario, Sri Lanka’s 2-0 victory over New Zealand will be meaningless because they will end with a PCT of 61.0, trailing Australia and India in the WTC table. As a result, with a 3-1 result in the India vs. Australia Test series, both Australia and India will be guaranteed a spot in the WTC final.
