IND v SA 1st T20I: Shreyas Iyer’s formidable batting figures in the absence of Virat Kohli

In the first match of the five-match T20I series in New Delhi on Thursday, South Africa won the toss and elected to bowl first.

Shreyas Iyer, who batted at No. 3, was outstanding until he was dismissed. In the absence of seasoned players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, the right-handed batter, who led Kolkata Knight Riders in the just finished IPL 2022, was found to be in fantastic form. He scored 36 runs in 27 balls, including three sixes and one deliveries, for a strike rate of 133.33. Unfortunately, Dwayne Pretorius knocked Shreyas Iyer in the 17th over while India was 156/3.

Pretorius bowled an off-cutter that gripped the ground and turned in. Shreyas Iyer attempted a powerful slog but absolutely missed the ball, which grazed the off stump. In the middle overs, he tried his hand against the spinners.
