IND v SA 1st T20I: Gautam Gambhir opines on Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma being rested from the series

Big names are missing in the home series against the South Africa T20I series. The likes of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have been rested from playing the series. Gautam Gambhir, however, expressed his reservation against resting the duo.

The likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, and Jasprit Bumah will miss the home series against South Africa, which is being considered as a preparation for the T20I world cup 2022 in Australia. India has decided to place its second-string side to play the South African side that is featuring the likes of Wayne Parnel, Kagiso Rabada, and the recent IPL trend, David Miller. But India will miss the services of skipper Rohit Sharma and the former skipper Virat Kohli. The duo has been playing for the country for a very long time and have delivered their best but the IPL 2022 hasn’t been fine-fettle for the two.

Both the senior batters have struggled to bag runs in the cash-rich league, just ahead of India preparing to field its strongest side in the upcoming t-20 world cup. Gautam Gambhir, who recently mentored Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) that entered playoffs in their debut season, has opined on the duo missing out on the bilateral series. Gautam Gambhir during the commentary while chatting with Akash Chopra, said:

“If Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have to come back to form, they have to play more and more cricket. Missing this series would least help. They should have been played.” India is preparing for the world cup after ousting out of the previous world cup in UAE.
