The 36th Test skipper of Team India is now officially Jasprit Bumrah. In the one-off Test match against England from July 1 to July 5, the Indian bowler will make his captaincy debut. On the day before the match, BCCI formally confirmed the news.

Since Kapil Dev, he is the first fast bowler to captain India. In November 1987, Kapil played his final ODI as India’s captain against England in Mumbai.

After Rohit Sharma tested positive for COVID-19 last week, the right-arm bowler was the favourite to make his captaincy debut. The team management had faith that Rohit would recover in time, however on the day before the match, his test came back positive. India will have a new captain for the match because it stopped him from playing.

Rishabh Pant will serve as the vice captain for the forthcoming Test, according to the All-India Senior Selection Committee.

India were leading the five-match series 2-1 when multiple COVID-19 cases in their camp led to the postponement of the final game which was a part of the World Test Championship.

India’s Test squad: Jasprit Bumrah (Captain), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Hanuma Vihari, Cheteshwar Pujara, Rishabh Pant (vice-captain) (wk), KS Bharat (wk), Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Umesh Yadav, Prasidh Krishna, Mayank Agarwal.
