IND v ENG 5th test: Joe Root bags his 28th Test century

Joe Root, the former England captain, blasted his 28th century in Test cricket.

Joe Root‘s fifth Test century of 2022 was a continuance of his excellent form. The fifth day of the fifth Test between India and England saw the right-hander pull off this incredible accomplishment. This was also his 28th hundred in a Test.

Among current cricketers, Root currently leads the league in Test hundreds. Virat Kohli and Steven Smith, his rivals, were left off the list by him.

He has now scored the most centuries by a batsman in 2022 with his fifth century in a Test match. In the run-chase, he required just 136 balls to reach his record-breaking century.

On day four of the rescheduled fifth Test at Edgbaston on Monday, England’s massive chase of 378 against India was led by Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow, who both hit immaculate hundreds. The hosts had 259/3 in 57 overs at the end of stumps, requiring 119 runs on a sold-out final day to tie the five-match Pataudi Trophy series.

England had a fantastic time as Root and Bairstow returned to the dressing room after scoring 76 off 110 balls and 73 off 89 deliveries, respectively, on a day when rain opted not to stop the match. Prior to this, England bowled the visitors out for 245 in 81.5 overs on a ground with varying pace and some turn for spinners by taking out the final seven Indian wickets for 120 runs, with Ben Stokes adding three more.
