After a historic 1-0 Test series triumph in Pakistan, the Pat Cummins-led Australian Test team has moved atop of the points table in the present World Test Championship (WTC) 2021-23 season.
At the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Friday, Australia thrashed Pakistan by 115 runs to win the final Test match and clinched the three-match Test series 1-0. On the last day of the series decider, Australia needed to take 10 wickets as Pakistan openers Imam-ul-Haq and Abdullah Shafique opened the day with 73/0 in their quest for 351 to win the game.
Pakistan fell against experienced off-spinner Nathan Lyon, who got plenty of turns and bounce off a fifth-day surface and finished with 5-83 from 37 overs after resuming on 73-0 and entering the final session at 190-5.
The Australians were visiting Pakistan for the first time in 24 years. They did win the Test series 1-0 the last time under Mark Taylor, and they’ve won it again under Pat Cummins.
On the current World Test Championship season, Australia has not lost a single Test, and the Pat Cummins-led team extended their success in the subcontinent after beating England for 4-0 earlier this year.
With 72 points, Australia is at the top of the rankings, followed by South Africa with 36 points. India is in the top three with 77 points, while Pakistan placed fourth with 44 points.
