ICC WORLD CUP 2023: Canada’s Challenge League success brings team close to World Cup dream

Canada easily won Challenge League Group A, locking up a spot in the 2023 Cricket World Cup Qualifying Playoff.

Canada, which topped the group with 27 points after winning their final Challenge League game with a convincing 189-run victory over Malaysia, advanced to the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifying Play-off. The team will now have to complete two more qualification steps before they can travel to India for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. These steps are the six-team Qualifier Playoff and the Zimbabwe Cricket World Cup Qualifier.

The Canadians have been in complete control of the Challenge League campaign, losing just one game in 15 games, their lone loss occurring back in September 2019. In Malaysia earlier this week, they showed off their strong play by defeating Qatar by four wickets and then thrashing Singapore by 187 runs to secure their Playoff eligibility.
