ICC releases its statement on banning Zimbabwe cricketer Brendan Taylor

ICC has released its statement to announce a ban on Zimbabwe cricketer Brendan Taylor.

Former captain of Zimbabwe Cricket team Brendan Taylor was found guilty for spot-fixing and ICC in accordance to that bans the players for three and a half years.

Zimbabwe player Brendan Taylor confessed the guilt of getting involved in the “spot-fixing” scam and the International Cricket Council banned him for this anti-corruption action and also pressed charges on him. Brendan was framed for breaching four charges under the ICC Anti-Corruption Code of Conduct and one charge under the ICC Anti-Doping Code.

ICC General Manager of the Integrity Unit, Alex Marshall quoted in the official release that Brendan captained Zimbabwe for 17 years and was well aware of his actions as the captain knew the results in breaching the ICC Code of Conduct.

Brendan through his social media accounts came forward to disclose and admitted the guilt of accepting money for “spot-fixing”. “I may be many things but I am not a cheat,” Brendan added to his statement.

Brendan admitted that he received a $15,000 deposit for spot-fixing, which was initiated through blackmailing him. Taylor confessed that he was involved in this arrangement of ‘spot-fixing’ but never went through with it. According to Taylor, the person who tried to spot-fix the game of cricket was an Indian businessman. The incident which happened in 2019 has concluded on January 28, 2022, after ICC officially announced the multi-year ban statement.

Taylor has played in 34 Test games, 205 One Day Internationals, and 45 T20s. Retired in September, Taylor said that he would accept whatever ICC imposes. Brendan is also undergoing rehabilitation treatment.
