Sridharan Sriram, a former all-rounder for India, will serve as the team’s technical consultant for the competition, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced earlier this week. Head coach Russell Domingo had been urged to concentrate more on Test and ODI cricket, according to BCB president Nazmul Hassan. Khaled Mahmud, the technical director for BCB, added that Domingo’s mentality didn’t work for the team in the game’s shortest format.
The coach, who was born in South Africa, has now spoken out about his experience working with the Bangladesh team and claims that there is a lot of “outside pressure” on the side. The Bangladeshi coach went on to say that he had been instructed to “scream” at the players and to be severe with them.
“You can ask the cricketers I wanted to have a calm atmosphere in the dressing room and wanted to develop cricketers with clarity but so many people are making noise from close quarters that it was not possible. All the time I was told that you need to scream at them and you have to be strict and that is the way to deal with the cricketer and I am sure earlier coaches were like that but they hardly did anything in T20 because Bangladesh won only one game in T20s and I went with them in one World Cup. Lot of coaches went with them earlier but nothing happened so wanted to walk in a different way,” said Domingo.
