The T20 world cup is almost upon and the buzz around it and topics related to it in Indian cricket are almost palpable. Since India has not won this prestigious trophy since its inaugural edition, the fans are hoping for the drought to get over. The urge to win this trophy is amplified by the fact that this will be the last tournament of Virat Kohli as the captain in the shortest format.
Apart from this, one other thing that has got everyone buzzing is the future of the Indian Cricket team’s coaching staff. Earlier, Ravi Shastri had made it clear that this tournament will be his last as the coach of the Indian Cricket Team. Therefore recently, there has been a lot of speculations regarding who could be the next in line after Shastri. According to Cricbuzz and TOI, the Indian batting legend and former skipper Rahul Dravid has agreed on personal terms, to become the next coach of the Indian team. However, there has been no official confirmation, neither by the board nor by Dravid himself. That is why there has been a lot of buzzes about can Dravid, who currently is the head of NCA, really become the coach of the Indian Team, considering that he has turned down the offer on previous occasions.
During a Captain’s call organized by ICC right before the tournament (ICC T20 World Cup) commences, the Indian skipper was asked regarding the rumours around. To which Kohli responded by saying, “I have no idea regarding what is happening at the coach front, we have not had any detailed discussion with anyone. But winning the T20 World Cup is our goal like any other team.”
India will take on Pakistan in their opening match which will be played on the 24th of October.
