Sanju Samson is back in the lineup for the T20I series against Sri Lanka, which kicks off on January 3. The wicketkeeper-batter participated in the ODI series against New Zealand but was unable to play in the subsequent limited-overs series in Bangladesh. Samson will, however, be looking to take advantage of the opportunities in the upcoming three-match home series, where the team will be led by Hardik Pandya.

Another factor contributing to Samson’s struggles for the Indian team, according to his RR coach Kumar Sangakkara, is that he must play outside of his position for the Men in Blue. Prior to the India-Sri Lanka series, Sangakkara revealed the ideal T20 entry point for the wicket-keeper batter.

“He’s ideally suited at no.4 in T20 cricket, coming in after the first seven overs are done. He can bat anywhere; I think in India, when he plays, he has to bat out of position. He has power, he has got touch, he has got a great temperament, good head on his shoulders. He understands how to navigate difficult situations. You can slot him anywhere and he will do well,” said Sangakkara to Sports Today.
