As the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) prepare for their IPL final, speculation is growing about former India opener Gautam Gambhir potentially becoming the head coach of the Indian cricket team. Despite the rumours, Gambhir has not yet applied for the prestigious role.
Recent comments by BCCI secretary Jay Shah have fueled the speculation. Shah emphasized the importance of selecting individuals who understand the Indian cricket structure well. This has led many to believe that Gambhir, with his extensive experience and knowledge of Indian cricket, could be a leading candidate for the position.
Although there has been no formal offer from the board, sources suggest that Gambhir is open to the idea if approached. Known for his bold approach and leadership skills, Gambhir’s strategic insights could be a significant asset to the Indian cricket team.
A source told Jagran, “He (Gautam Gambhir) has not applied yet, but if things go well and BCCI indicates that he will be the coach if he applies, then he will apply on June 27. There has been no discussion with KKR owner Shahrukh Khan regarding this yet.”
