Virat Kohli is the living example of the idiom that โform is temporary and class is permanent.โ Yes, the Indian captain has had rough patch in the past few years, considering that he has failed to score a single century in over 500 days. That however does not define who Virat Kohli as a player is. As a player he has achieved more than anyone could have thought of, when a round faced lad from Delhi made his debut for India. As the Indian captain turns 33 today, letโs take a look at some of the lesser-known facts about Kohli.
Kohli is known to be the Run machine, hence it does not come as a surprise that the lad is the fastest to reach the 10000 runs mark in ODIS, surpassing even the great Sachin Tendulkar. However, whatโs really amazing the margin of matches between the two players. Sachin achieved the milestone in 259 matches. And it took Kohli just 205 to break the record. He already is the highest run scorer in T20Is. In 86 innings, Kohli has scored 3225 runs at an average of 52.10, even the universe boss Chris Gayle is nowhere close to his records in the T20Is. The second person on the list if Martin Guptill of New Zealand with just 3069 runs against his name at a dismal average of 32.64.
What makes Kohli one of the best is the fact that he leads from the front. While his batting records as an individual shine, his captaining skills are no too far off either. Ever since he took the mantle of Test captain from mighty MS Dhoni in 2014, Kohli has worked wonders. Team India has played 65 matches under his leadership and has won 38 of them. This is the highest numbers of win India recorded under any captain. Not only that, Kohli also became the first Asian Captain to lead a side to test series victory in Australian in 2018/19 series.
In a career spanning over a decade, Kohli has managed to accumulate 23,159 international runs in just 443 matches. With several years still under his belt, we hope to see more of him in the coming years.
