Former South African captain Faf du Plessis has disclosed his contemplation of a return to international cricket, eyeing a comeback in time for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup next year.
Du Plessis’ last international appearance dates back to the second Test against Pakistan in Rawalpindi in 2021, and his most recent white-ball outing for South Africa was in a T20I contest against England in Cape Town at the close of 2020.
Despite the hiatus, the 39-year-old has been showcasing strong performances at the domestic level. Notably, he emerged as the second-highest run-scorer in this year’s Indian Premier League, accumulating an impressive 730 runs for Royal Challengers Bangalore from 14 innings. With a promising domestic form, du Plessis is considering a return to the international arena, and the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup provides a potential stage for his comeback bid.
