Former New Zealand cricketer, Chris Cairns, is now off life support and is recovering after an emergency surgery took place for his heart problem in a hospital in Sydney. His lawyer, Aaron Lloyd has put out a statement regarding the health of the former all-rounder which says that Chris is off life support and is being able to talk to his family from a hospital in Sydney.
The lawyer further states that Chris and his family are overwhelmed and grateful for the love and well wishes that they have got from everyone and are also thankful for the privacy that they gave to the family. The statement ends with the family requesting this to continue as they move on to recovery going forward.
51 year old Cairns had a major medical incident, earlier this month which required a surgery. The surgery took place in Canberra but he had to be shifted to St. Vincent’s in Sydney for another surgery due to how serious his condition was. Media in his home country, New Zealand reported that he had suffered from an aortic dissection which is a tear in the body’s main artery.
Cairns had played 62 Tests, 215 One Day International’s and two T20 International matches for his home country, New Zealand. He was considered a pretty good allrounder and had memorable innings such as the unbeaten 102 he scored against India at the ICC Knockout Trophy final in 2000. His father, Lance Cairns was a cricketer too.
After retirement, Chris and his family have been living in Canberra for a long time and he also does commentary for Sky Sports New Zealand.
