The BCCI has declared that Rohit Sharma will be joining the Indian side in Australia to play in the Border-Gavaskar trophy. He has been added to the squad for the last two tests which will be played in January. He was declared fit by the NCA on Wednesday. The fitness and skill test was done under the observation of NCA head Rahul Dravid and the selection committee. Rohit is expected to leave for Australia by 14th December.
BCCI in their official statement on Saturday have cleared that the final call will be taken by the medical team on Rohit’s selection in the final two tests. He has been declared medically fit but he needs to be re-assessed before the third test for his inclusion. The test series is set to begin by 17th December in Adelaide which will be a day/night test.
Rohit’s exclusion from the team raised many questions earlier as he is a key player for the team. He was injured during the IPL and didn’t play any league games for the MI. He straight away came in for the Qualifiers and eventually led the team to fifth title. Rohit playing for MI got many questions to BCCI as his exclusion was being questioned. The BCCI, when they declared the side for the tour had stated the reason for his exclusion as he was injured in the IPL and would be under observation for the further period.
After a lot of talks between the captain, head coach, Rohit himself, the management and the selectors, it was decided that Rohit Sharma would undergo fitness tests at the NCA.
Rohit will be available for the third test which will begin from 7th January.
