English all-rounder Moeen Ali set to announce his retirement from Test Cricket: Reports

So far Moeen has played 64 matches (111) innings with bat and has managed to score 2914 runs including 15 fifties and 5 tons at an average of 28.29.

Moeen Ali the star allrounder of the English cricket team, has decided to retire from the longest format of the game. This comes right before the start of a long away tour for the English team, as they are set to compete in the World T20, following which they will also be travelling to Australia for the Ashes series.

According to reports, Moeen is not comfortable with spending such a long time away from home. Currently, he is in UAE playing IPL for the CSK franchise.  It is understood that the 34-year-old is in direct contact with his national team Captain Joe Root and coach Chris Silverwood, and has informed them about his decision. He made his debut in test cricket in 2014, against Sri Lanka in a home series at Lords. Two years in and he was already the buzz around the town. With his off-spin bowling and more than capable batting skills, he was one of the best all-rounders in test cricket. So far Moeen has played 64 matches (111) innings with bat and has managed to score 2914 runs including 15 fifties and 5 tons at an average of 28.29. As a bowler, he has 195 in 112 innings, at a strike rate of 60.79. he has taken 5 five-wicket hauls and 1 ten-wicket haul which is no mean feat in itself.

Due to a lack of form, he was dropped from the side after the 2019 Ashes, in which Australia retained the prestigious trophy on the English turf, but recently Moeen was recalled to join the squad in the ongoing test with India. He played the second and fourth test, and scored a combined total of 70 runs, and picked up 7 wickets. He will continue to play the white-ball format.
