England and Wales Cricket Board has confirmed that they will be touring Pakistan right before the T20 World Cup for a T20 series. This tour was supposed to take place in the month of January but due to clash in dates with the Big Bash league and a pending tour of Sri Lanka, it was postponed to October 2021.
The ECB has agreed to send a full T20 side to Pakistan rather than a second choice team. This move was made as the Pakistan team toured England amidst the pandemic. The PCB chief executive said that this was great for both the boards and they will show that the level of safety and the arrangements done for cricket in Pakistan is as good as any other country in the World. This tour will also further develop the interest of English players to participate in the PSL which is growing to the level of IPL.
England will also tour Pakistan in 2022-23 for longer series. Many teams like South Africa and New Zealand are also due to tour Pakistan along with Australia committing to touring in early 2022 for limited-overs and test series.
The ECB has added that they will take care of all the players touring Pakistan, make sure of their families wellbeing as well as take count of the changing nature of the COVID-19 pandemic at that time as well. This will be the first time in 16 years that the English team will be touring Pakistan.
