England’s head coach, Matthew Mott, has responded to former captain Eoin Morgan’s recent comments about a perceived deeper issue within the squad.
After England’s disheartening 100-run loss to India in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, Morgan had expressed his belief that there might be underlying problems affecting the team’s performance.
Addressing Morgan’s concerns, Mott acknowledged Morgan’s right to his opinion but disagreed with his assessment. Mott emphasized that despite the team’s challenging results, the squad remains closely bonded.
He plans to discuss Morgan’s observations directly with him, stating, “If he’s seeing something that I’m not, I’ll definitely have that conversation.”
Mott defended the team’s unity, highlighting their strong camaraderie. He referenced the positive atmosphere within the team, even mentioning the surprise of a former rugby international observer at how tightly knit the unit was.
England’s defense of their World Cup title faces a significant hurdle, with five losses from six matches. Although not mathematically out of the running, it would require an extraordinary turn of events for England to secure a spot in the final four.
