Disney+ Hotstar Surpasses 15 Lakh Peak Concurrent Viewership in First Two Days of WTC Final 2023

The day 3 of the WTC Final has begun with Shardul and Rahane on crease.

Disney+ Hotstar’s streaming of the World Test Championship 2023 final between India and Australia has reached a peak concurrency of around 15 lakhs (1.5 million) in the first two days of the match. The average live viewership for the championship is around ten lacs (1 million). Comparatively, during the recently concluded IPL, JioCinema had reached a peak concurrency of 3.21 crore (32.1 million), the highest ever for any streaming platform.

To keep up with industry trends and the shift in viewership from linear TV to digital platforms, Disney+ Hotstar has announced that upcoming cricket tournaments like the Asia Cup and ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 will be available for free streaming, similar to JioCinema’s strategy for the IPL. This decision comes after Disney+ Hotstar lost 8.4 million paid subscribers due to losing the digital rights for the IPL. Additionally, the loss of HBO content from Disney+ Hotstar has also affected its premium subscriber base.

Regarding the World Test Championship final, India is facing a challenging situation as they are trailing by 318 runs at the end of Day 2 while chasing Australia’s target of 469 runs. Steve Smith and Travis Head’s centuries helped Australia achieve a substantial total, and their bowlers have also performed well by dismissing five Indian batsmen by the end of Day 2. The outcome of the match remains to be seen as India looks to make up ground on Day 3 of the clash.
