Dhruv Jurel showcases happiness about playing alongside Kohli & Hitman

Dhruv Jurel, possibly on the brink of bedtime, found himself in a relaxed state. India A had firmly asserted their dominance in the first unofficial test against England Lions, trailing the visitors by a substantial 110 runs with nine wickets in hand. Contemplating the prospect of batting on the final day, little did Dhruv anticipate the monumental news awaiting him.

His tranquility was disrupted by a call from friends, delivering the life-altering news that he had been selected for the Indian side in the first two Tests against England. Despite consistent performances in domestic cricket and for India A, a Test call-up had never crossed Dhruv’s mind.

“My friends told me that I have been selected for the England series. I was very happy. I have performed well for India A. But I didn’t think about my selection for the senior team. I just focussed on performing well,” Dhurv told Dainik Jagran.

Wearing the Indian jersey is a familiar experience for the 22-year-old hailing from Agra, Uttar Pradesh. Having served as India’s keeper-batter in the U19 World Cup in 2020, he has been a regular fixture in India A and emerging Indian squads for the past year.

“When I told my dad, he was ecstatic. He asked me for which Indian team I have been selected. I said ‘the one with Rohit (Sharma) bhaiya and Virat (Kohli) bhaiya’. It was an emotional moment for the entire family,” Dhruv added.

However, this call was distinctly special – a call-up to the senior Indian side. When he shared the news with his father, an ex-army man, the reaction was nothing short of priceless. The journey from the relaxed eve of a crucial match for India A to the elation of a Test call-up was an unexpected and cherished turn of events for Dhruv Jurel.
