Daren Sammy believes Rohit to be a good leader for team India

Daren Sammy appreciates BCCI handing over the captaincy to Rohit Sharma.

Former West Indies skipper Daren Sammy believes that the Indian team is in “good hands” under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy. Rohit is one of the experienced top-order batsmen and having played under legendary captain MS Dhoni, Sammy believes that the leadership role is in the experienced hands.

Newly-appointed captain Rohit Sharma was announced fit ahead of the West Indies series which is completely a white-ball series and the five-time IPL winning captain is ready to captain team India. The series is set to start from February 6 which includes three One Day Internationals in Ahmedabad, Narendra Modi Stadium) and three T20Is in Kolkata (Eden Gardens).

Virat stepped down from the captaincy role in the T20 format and Rohit was appointed the T20 captain. Followed by the T20 captaincy, BCCI probably did not want two white-ball captains, hence the management decided to remove Virat from the leadership role in the ODI format too. The removal of Virat came out as a blow when Virat and the management did not agree on similar reasons of why Virat was removed which led to a rift between the former captain and BCCI officials.

Sammy told PTI during the Legends League Cricket match that Virat Kohli is a great performer on the field and this change in captaincy should not affect the team. Continuing Sammy quoted that Rohit Sharma with an experience in the IPL has been witnessed as a successful captain and Sammy has personally watched him leading the Mumbai Indians franchise and believes him to be a motivational leader. Sammy included Rohit’s name in the list of players like MS Dhoni and Gautam Gambhir and quoted that such successful players can lead their side and win it for the team.

I’m not worried about Indian cricket. It’s in good hand,” Sammy told PTI.
