Dale Steyn joins Washington Freedom as bowling coach for MLC 2023

South African cricket legend Dale Steyn has been appointed as the bowling coach of the Washington Freedom franchise for the upcoming Major League Cricket (MLC) 2023 season. Steyn, who retired from playing cricket in 2021, has become highly sought after as a coach and will now lend his expertise to the American team.

The Washington Freedom has been busy assembling a strong squad for their debut season, and the addition of Steyn as the bowling coach further enhances their coaching staff. Steyn brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the team, having played at the highest level for South Africa and also representing various IPL teams, including the Sunrisers Hyderabad and Sunrisers Eastern Cape.

The franchise has also made key appointments in other areas of their coaching staff. Moises Henriques, the Australian all-rounder, has been named the captain of the Washington Freedom. Henriques has proven his leadership skills by winning two titles with the Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash League. Joining him is Greg Shipperd, who has been appointed as the head coach. Shipperd, who has been with the Sydney Sixers since 2015, brings a wealth of coaching experience to the team.

Sanjay Govil, the owner of the Washington Freedom, expressed his satisfaction with the squad that has been assembled so far. He highlighted the winning culture that Henriques and Shipperd have built together at the Sydney Sixers and emphasized the importance of instilling that culture in the young franchise from the beginning. Govil also expressed his excitement about having the legendary Dale Steyn on board, as his presence will provide invaluable guidance to the young players on the team.

The MLC’s inaugural edition is scheduled to begin on July 13 at the newly renovated Air hogs stadium in Dallas. With the experienced coaching staff and a roster of talented international players, the Washington Freedom will look to make a strong impression in their debut season and establish themselves as a force to be reckoned with in American cricket.
