Discrepancies have surfaced regarding the contract extension of Rahul Dravid, India’s head coach, just a day after the BCCI released a statement confirming the extension. A recent PTI report claimed that Dravid has yet to sign any contract extension with the cricket board.
Dravid’s contract concluded following India’s runner-up finish in the ODI World Cup 2023. While reports indicated the extension, a tweet from PTI quoted Dravid saying, “I haven’t yet signed a contract with the BCCI but had discussions on tenure. Once I get the papers, I will sign.” The discussions on Dravid’s tenure were part of a review meeting attended by BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, chief selector Ajit Agarkar, and captain Rohit Sharma in the Capital on Thursday.

After India’s World Cup final loss to Australia, Dravid, when asked about his future as head coach, stated, “I haven’t thought about it. I’ve just come off a game. I had no time to think about this and no time to reflect on this. Yeah, I will when I get the time to do that.” Dravid emphasized being entirely focused on the World Cup campaign and hadn’t given much thought to his future at that moment.
