Indian batting maestro Virat Kohli has added another milestone to his illustrious career, becoming only the second player in ODI history to surpass 8000 runs while chasing. Kohli achieved this feat during India’s semi-final clash against Australia in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 at the Dubai International Stadium.
Kohli, known for his exceptional chasing abilities, has played 159 innings in successful and unsuccessful run chases, maintaining an outstanding average of 64.53. His ability to anchor innings under pressure and accelerate when needed has made him one of the most reliable batters in run chases.
At the time of reaching this landmark, Kohli had already contributed significantly to India’s chase of 265 runs set by Australia. He has now joined an elite group of batters, solidifying his reputation as one of the greatest finishers in ODI cricket. With 40 centuries and 28 fifties in chases, Kohli continues to be a key player for India in high-stakes matches.
Meanwhile, India lost both openers early, with Shubman Gill bowled by Ben Dwarshuis for 8 and Rohit Sharma falling LBW to Cooper Connolly for 28. As Kohli and Shreyas Iyer build a steady partnership, India still requires 179 more runs to secure a spot in the final.
