BCCI Media Rights Auctions: Board expects a windfall of over ₹10,000 crore

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is preparing for another lucrative media rights auction, expecting a windfall of over Rs 10,000 Crore.

The auction will cover the next five years and includes India’s matches against top teams like Australia and England. For the first time, India Cricket bilateral rights will be sold separately for TV and Digital platforms, creating demands for both. Despite the lesser number of matches compared to IPL, BCCI is confident about the huge revenue due to the popularity and intense competition.

Serious contenders like Disney-Star, Viacom18, and Sony are expected to participate, with the possibility of a split winner. The auction deadline for tender documents is August 25, and the process is set to conclude by the first week of September.

The matches will span from September 2023 to March 2028 and include various formats against prominent cricketing nations. BCCI officials believe the strong market competition, the shift towards digital platforms, and the quality of matches will contribute to the anticipated revenue surge.
