BCCI implements compulsory requirement of Yo-Yo Test and Dexa scans for selection of players from 2023

Twenty players have been picked by the BCCI to compete in the 2023 Men’s World Cup. The BCCI decided to rotate these players at the review meeting with the top brass of Indian cricket in order to ensure proper training before the 2023 World Cup, which will be held in India.

Yo-Yo and DEXA fitness tests are used by the BCCI Selection Committee to choose the squad. The BCCI met with the men’s team captain and coach to discuss the T20Is in 2022 and choose players for the World Cup in 2023. The Yo-Yo Test made the choice, which has once more raised questions about the nature of the fitness test.

The Yo-Yo test is a maximal aerobic endurance fitness test, which involves running at increasing speeds until exhaustion. Danish football physiologist Jens Bangsbo and his colleagues developed the test in the 1990s and is now a common physical fitness test for football players. Yo-Yo Intermittent Recovery Test Level 1 is the most common version of the test used for athletes.

DEXA is a medical exam for bone density that checks the mineral content of the bones in certain areas.

The Yo-Yo Test and Dexa will now be part of selection criteria and implemented in the customized roadmaps of the central pool of players,” the BCCI said in a statement after the meeting.
